Rawlings’ Adult Football Helmets Are at the Head of the Class

All three of Rawlings’ adult-sized football helmets have received high marks for their ability to reduce the risk of concussions.

Rawlings’ NRG Quantum™ Plus helmet received the top rating of 5 stars in a Virginia Tech study. Rawlings’ NRG Quantum™ and NRG Impulse helmets each received 4 stars.

The Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings™ were conducted by Dr. Stefan Duma, professor of biomedical engineering and head of the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences.

According to the Virginia Tech release, “the process used for evaluating the head protector involves performing 120 impacts on each helmet model at multiple locations and impact energies.”  Each helmet’s assessment is then compared to data collected from more than 1.8 million head impacts experiences by football players in an 8-year span.

"As an industry leader, Rawlings appreciates Dr. Duma's and Virginia Tech's efforts on measuring helmet performance," Art Chou, Rawlings' senior vice president of product development, told The New York Times. "We are constantly working to improve our helmet performance, and we appreciate all approaches that make these improvements easier for consumers to understand."

WARNING: NO HELMET CAN PREVENT ALL HEAD OR ANY NECK INJURIES A PLAYER MIGHT RECEIVE WHILE PARTICIPATING IN FOOTBALL. Do not use this helmet or faceguard to butt, ram, or spear an opposing player. This is in violation of football rules and such case can result in severe head or neck injuries, paralysis or death to you and possible injury to your opponent. Contact in football may result in CONCUSSION/BRAIN INJURY which no helmet can prevent. Symptoms include: loss of consciousness or memory, dizziness, headache, nausea, or confusion. If you have symptoms, immediately stop playing and report them to your coach, trainer, doctor and parents.  Do not return to a game or practice until all symptoms have resolved for an extended period of time and you have received written MEDICAL CLEARANCE. Ignoring this warning may lead to additional and more serious or fatal brain injury including potentially fatal second impact syndrome. No helmet system can protect you from serious brain and/or neck injuries including paralysis or death. To avoid these risks, do not engage in the sport of football.
