Safety is a concern in any sport, not just baseball. But whether you have a child playing ball or you play in your own league, it’s always safe to choose Rawlings’ BESR-certified bats.
BESR is the official safety certification issued for non-wood bats used in the NCAA and NHFS. It stands for ball exit speed ratio.
The Baseball Research Center is the official certification center for the NCAA and NHFS, and each bat used in those leagues must pass testing at the center to receive the BESR certification.
Testing the BESR of a bat is a measure of the “liveliness” of the ball off the bat. Testers at the research center measure the performance of the bat under controlled conditions and assign a number to it. For a bat to be certified, that number must fall at or below the value set by the NCAA.
Rawlings has several lines of bats that have received the BESR certification:
• 5150 Exogrid
• 5150 Composite
• 5150 Alloy
• 5150 Exogrid
• 5150 Hybrid
• Rush Gold Lite
• Plasma
• Velocity
• Fuel
